Cast in stone – memories of Ajanta

A few months ago, I read a poem by Wislawa Szymborska (here), and I loved the ending lines:

Time deserves an honorable mention here,
as it stopped midway
and left something for later.

I went back to these lines during a recent visit to Aurangabad, Ajanta and Ellora to see the cave sculptures and paintings created so many centuries ago. Some of the pictures my wife took, in black and white, are really beautiful, and really do speak a thousand words.

Any captions from me would be pointless. There are many wonderful guides online that can tell great stories about these and other marvels at Ajanta.

I look forward to more visits to these caves before Time starts his slow but inexorable process of destruction once again.

About thecrestedjay

I am passionate about football, jazz, classic rock, classic movies, crime, science fiction and P G Wodehouse. And also about NBA, western and Indian classical music. Since the wife will also read this blog, I cannot reveal my other passions in public. Have one son who plays the guitar, spent some time as an animator and now works for a digital marketing and advertising company. I also have one (1) wife. I spent a lot of my time on my music and books collection. I also have a passion for travelling but not a great deal of time and money to spend on this. Hopefully, in the future, I'll be able to do so.
